Our Laundry Room Refresh

Our Laundry Room Refresh

Today, I’m thrilled to share with you our laundry room refresh! Let me start off by saying that I’m grateful just to have a laundry room! If you’ve been following me for a while, you may remember that in our previous historic 1800s home, we kept the washer and dryer in the dark and dingy basement. We could barely stand up straight with its low ceiling, and it was just not pretty! Before that, we lived in a basement apartment and the washer/dryer was in the kitchen directly next to the oven, ha! Needless to say, this laundry room refresh is very exciting for me!

Laundry Room Updates

Washer and Dryer

We decided that we were going to refresh the laundry room over Thanksgiving weekend. We scooped up this Maytag washer and dryer set as part of a Black Friday Sale.

What I love about this Maytag washing machine is that its Extra Power, Quick Wash, and Fresh HoldĀ® options. The Extra Power button boosts stain-fighting performance on any wash cycle with a dual-temperature wash. The Quick Wash cycle cleans small, lightly soiled loads in 15 minutes. This was a must-have feature for Ryan who is always looking in the dirty hamper for something that he wants to wear at that very moment, and is always in a hurry. Any other husbands like this? And with the 16-hour Fresh HoldĀ® option, Maytag helps keep clean clothes smelling fresh for up to 16 hours after wash cycles end. I’m sure many of you can relate with me that you put loads in the washer, and then forget about them for hours – or overnight!

As with the washing machine, the dryer has an Extra Power button to help get clothes dry the first time. It also as a Steam option that helps prevent wrinkles, and reduces static. Ryan loves this feature for drying his Jos. A. Bank work shirts.

Cabinets and Countertop

Our Laundry Room Refresh

If you are new here, I’m very lucky to have a handy husband who is capable of doing projects like this around the house himself.

The cabinets for the laundry room were stock white shaker wall cabinets and a stock white shaker sink base cabinet from Lowes. Ryan picked these up and installed them himself.

Next, he framed out a box structure around the washer / dryer with 2x4s. The countertop is a birch wood butcher block from Lowes. It comes unfinished, so Ryan cut, stained, lacquered and finished himself. To finish it up, he installed a drop-in stainless steel sink with faucet. The only part we hired out on was having a plumber make the final connections after the sink install.

The old washer / dryer still worked, so we listed it on our local community Facebook group, and dropped it off at their house. Upcycle when you can!

Plans for the Future

My vision for the future is to replace the tiles with a bolder printed tile. Since the current tiles match the kitchen tiles, we thought it made most sense to wait until we remodel the kitchen; as they lead from the kitchen down the hallway into the laundry room. We’re also planning to replace the door with the dog entry (we don’t have a dog) for a new one. Stay tuned…

I hope you enjoyed our laundry room refresh, and found the information helpful! As always, if you have any questions, feel free to reach out!

Kate
