Good morning! Thank you so much for your positive feedback on my Make-Ahead Christmas Breakfast Casserole! Being tagged in your pictures on Christmas Eve preparing the dish for your families for Christmas morning – made my night!! With that being said, I wanted to share another favorite with you! Perhaps for New Years Day?! I’ve been making this Make-Ahead Creme Brulee French Toast for almost a decade now!! Like the Amish Breakfast Casserole, I’ve made this for Christmas, Easter, Mother’s and Father’s Day, or when we have overnight guests! I found this recipe ages ago on Pinterest from Skinny Taste. Here it is, enjoy!
Creme Brulee French Toast
Ingredients
- 1 cup unpacked brown sugar
- 1/4 cup water
- cooking spray
- 10 oz Challah bread, sliced 1 inch thick (*Must be Challah bread!)
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup egg substitute
- 1-1/2 cups milk (skim or 1%) (*Start with 1 cup and add more, if needed.)
- 1.5 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 tsp powdered sugar
- 1 tsp cinnamon
Directions
- In a small heavy saucepan melt brown sugar and water over medium-low heat, stirring, until smooth and melted, then pour into a 13 x 9-inch baking dish coated with cooking spray.
- Arrange bread slices in one layer in baking dish, squeezing them slightly to fit.
- In a large bowl whisk together eggs, egg substitute, milk, vanilla, 1/2 tsp cinnamon, until combined well and pour evenly over bread.
- Cover and refrigerate at least 8 hours or overnight.
- Preheat oven to 350° F.
- Bake, uncovered, in middle of oven until puffed and edges are pale golden, about 40 minutes.
- Top with powdered sugar and cinnamon.
